Privacy
We built Veil to know nothing about you.
Last updated July 1, 2026Veil is a private notebook that runs entirely on your phone. There is no account to create and no server that holds your notes. This policy explains the few things that do touch a network, and the far larger list of things we never collect.
01What stays on your device
Everything you make in Veil — your notes, drawings, titles, and every setting — is stored only in the app's local storage on your phone. It is never uploaded, synced, or backed up to us. If you delete the app, that data is gone; we never had a copy.
02What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email, contacts, location, photos, advertising identifiers, or usage analytics. Veil contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not build a profile of you, and there is nothing to sell because nothing is gathered.
03The only times Veil uses the network
- Unlocking Veil Pro. When you enter a license key, the app sends that key and an anonymous, one-way hash of a device identifier to our licensing service to confirm the purchase and count how many devices a key has unlocked. We never receive the raw device id, your name, or your email through the app.
- Buying a license. Purchases are handled by our payment processor, Dodo Payments, acting as merchant of record. Any billing details you enter go to them, not to us; we only receive confirmation that a license exists. See dodopayments.com for their privacy practices.
- Sharing a note (optional, off by default). If you turn on the two-phone hand-off, a sealed note travels through an ephemeral real-time channel to the phone you paired with. It is relayed, not stored, and the feature is completely inert until you switch it on.
In its default state — writing and reading your own notes — Veil makes zero network calls and requests no extra permissions.
04Permissions
Veil may use vibration (for haptic feedback) and, only if you enable App Lock, your device's biometric unlock (Face ID / Touch ID / fingerprint). Biometric checks happen entirely on your device through the operating system; Veil never sees your face or fingerprint data.
05Children
Veil is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone. Because it collects no personal information at all, it is safe to use at any age.
06Your control
Since your data lives only on your phone, you are always in full control of it. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling Veil permanently removes everything. To move a license to a different phone, deactivate the current device from the Hidden Room and enter your key elsewhere.
